Happy May, clarinet friends! The school year is winding down, and I wanted to take this moment to reflect on one thing and one thing only: change. Whether big or small, change can affect us in a lot of ways. For me, change has affected me majorly this past semester, and I was able to accomplish things I never would have thought before now. I was given major opportunities that helped me to better myself, and I am so appreciative of everything I've been given.
This week, I wanted to reflect on these past few months, show some photos, and be selfish for a little bit (okay not literally, but I do hope this can inspire others to be their best
selves😊). I have done so much in the span of 4-5 months, and I wanted to create a running list of things that have happened/will happen soon!
I performed in my last Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra concert! We played
William Grant Still's Afro-American Symphony, and I am so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to perform with such high-caliber musicians.
I performed in my last Millikin Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert, called "Our Planet." The performance was phenomenal, and we even got to premiere my composition professor Dr. Steven Weimer's new piece called Earth Strands.
I performed in my Senior Recital! It was an awesome experience, and I am so grateful for everyone who came to support me:) I also spoke a little about this performance on my Instagram! (@kodys_music)
I performed in a few of my friend's recitals as well! All were so talented and deserved so much love💙
I premiered a piece I wrote! It is called Eccentric Shades for Clarinet Choir, and it premiered this past February at Millikin's Annual Clarinet Day! Click the link to learn more about this awesome event!: https://kmyhra8.wixsite.com/website/post/millikin-university-clarinet-day
I know this is not music related, but over these past 3-4 months, I officially lost 25 pounds! I have been working so hard to better my health and be the best version of myself, and it has really given me perseverance and strength.
I got a private teaching job! I have always wanted to teach privately, and I finally got a job at a phenomenal studio, here's the link to their website and go check them out!: https://www.andrealfonsomusic.com
I will be performing in the Millikin Opera Studio's production of Cosi Fan Tutte by W.A. Mozart! I am so excited to be in my last musical production on campus and to share it with one of my best friends:) (that's you, Cara! and here's a pic of when we played in She Loves Me earlier this year😄)
I am GRADUATING! That seems so surreal and I am honestly in denial. But all jokes aside, I am so grateful to be done with school. These past few years have been difficult for us all, and to have the strength to continue going to school is amazing. I am proud of everyone for that! I am so grateful to be done and move onto the next chapter of my life!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me these past few years💙 I cannot wait to see what life has in store for me the rest of this year! Here are some memories to look at:) Thank you guys for reading, and as always, happy practicing!
